If you are new to having puppies it is important to realize that it is not much different from having a baby. Crying puppy can be just as much work as a crying baby, so prepare for the worst.

First night

Puppies are extremely clingy animals, so if this is your initial night with the new buddy, the little ball of fur will most likely cry because he misses his mommy or his litter mates, and it can sometimes last for even a week.

The little fella is confused since he’s suddenly in a completely strange place, surrounded by people he doesn’t know. But, this will soon be over. Give him some time to adjust to this new environment, new smells and new people. Rubber or stuffed toy won’t hurt one bit.

Choosing the sleeping place

This is important. Pick one sleeping place and try to stick to it.

Don’t move his sleeping location for it will confuse your new buddy even more. Don’t put him in the hallway one night, than move him to the kitchen the next.

Moving the location will not only be confusing to the poor guy, but also scary.

If you allow your dogs to sleep in the bedroom with you, the problem is solved then. If not, pick one place for his crate and be consistent.

I’m crying cuz I have to go

Young pups have tiny bladders and they will probably need to go in the middle of the night. Take your doggy out in order to avoid accidents. Dogs instinctively don’t pee where they sleep, so you need to either take him outside, or establish an indoor potty.

If all these fail, simply let him cry. This might seem as a nasty method, but he will eventually soothe himself and stop crying.
