This delicious dog food seems to appeal to them all: fat dogs, thin dogs, fussy pooches, even diabetic dogs will love it.
This easy-to-make balanced DIY recipe should be more than enough to feed a fully grown lab for as long as one week.
We recommend you serve this food once a day, preferably in the evening, and consider adding one or two large handful of hard food if you don’t think would be enough for your pooch.
- 2 lbs carrots
- 2 lbs potatoes
- 1⁄2 bunch celery or zucchini
- 2 -3 lbs beef
- 1⁄4 dripping (optional)
- 3 -4 chicken stock cubes (optional)
- 3 -4 quarts water (12-16 cups)
- 1 lb pearl barley, dried
In a very large stock pot, put chopped carrots, potatoes, celery and beef.
Add the drippings and stock cubes to the pot.
Now add the water (around 12 to 16 cups should be enough) and put on stove over high heat. Cook for 1 hour.
When the mixture has come to a boil, add the barley and cook for another 30-35 minutes.
NOTE: If possible, make this recipe in the morning and dish up the servings for the evening meal and let them cool all day.
