A dog adopted from a shelter probably “feels” like a person who wins the lottery and although dog hoarding may be noble it takes more time and effort than most people think.

Housing multiple dogs can be a full-time commitment. One dog is a big enough responsibility for a family that owns it as it requires feeding, grooming, vet visits, walks and attention.

Multiply all that by the number of dogs you wish to have and the result is a responsibility worthy of a mid-sized organization.

Dogs require plenty of space and time for exercise, and they need to be fed a good-quality diet to keep them healthy and away from the vet’s office. All this is easily translated into money that is just being drained from the owner’s pocket.

On the other hand, a house full of pets is a happy place and the owners are highly unlikely to ever feel depressed when surrounded by so much unconditional love. Provided that prospective owners have an abundance of space, preferably in a rural setting, and have extra time on their hands, having multiple dogs can be fantastic.

Before you decide to extend your pet family, think carefully what exactly that entails and if you have the means to do it you will never feel lonely again.
