If your dog just can’t put any weight on, even though you are feeding him properly and regularly, this probably means he has parasites.

Canines are prone to having parasites, and since these organisms live off and depend on your fury canine friend, they can make it impossible for him to gain any weight. Some of the most common intestinal parasites known to be hosted by our pet dogs are: Whipworm, Hookworm, Roundworm and Giardia.

Whipworm

These are quite common and incredibly easy to pick up. Whipworm is a parasite often ingested when a dog grooms himself.

They are tricky since infected dogs usually don’t show any symptoms of whipworm infection for months.

Once the symptoms are shown, they include weight loss, diarrhea and flatulence. It is important to act fast because if untreated, whipworm can make you dog quite ill, or even be fatal.

Hookworm

Another dangerous parasite easy to catch is hookworm. These little pains-in-the-neck use their hook-like mouths to attach to a dog’s intestinal walls and feed on the large amounts of blood from the tiny blood vessels of intestinal walls.
