Finding a place to stay when you own a dog can be tricky and following the rules is usually a good idea.

If you like a building that doesn’t allow pets you better move right on and find a pet-friendly building with an apartment you like. Cat owners have it easier as they can even hide their little fury friends if they are not particularly vocal.

Dog owners can seldom hide their pooches so if you are looking to rent a condo it better be dog friendly.

Not surprisingly, smaller dog breeds are more acceptable than their much larger counterparts (good luck finiding a place to rent with a Great Dane), but if a basement apartment will do it usually comes down to the agreement between the landlord and the tenant.

If the landlord is an animal lover brining pets into his basement shouldn’t be a problem. Make sure you tell your potential landlord what kind of dog you have and show them the pooch’s vaccination records, especially if they themselves have pets upstairs.
