The Beaglier is a lively, energetic and friendly designer dog breed, the offspring of a Beagle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Origin

The breed became particularly popular through crossbreeding programs in Australia during the 1990s, when the breeders were looking for a healthy, energetic small dog with a less active scent drive than that of the Beagle. The Beaglier was developed because of affection for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Beagle breeds, and they became and remained quite popular due to their temperament.

Description

This small-medium breed typically has the shorter and more rounded muzzle of the Cavalier.

Average height for both male and female dog is 12-16 inches (30.5-40 cm), while the weight spans from 10 to 25 lbs (4.5-11.6 kg).

Beagliers are most often tricolor, but they can also come in tan, tan and white, red and white, ruby, black and tan, black and white or sometimes pure black.

They have a smooth, soft coat, but occasionally some pups can have longer coats, resembling the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel parent. An occasional brush and bath is all when it comes to their grooming, and they won’t shed much either.

These pooches are affectionate, playful, good natured and loyal, which makes them excellent family dogs. They enjoy being around people and children, but also love being around and other dogs. They are intelligent and confident by nature.

Pros

  • intelligent
  • great with kids
  • require little grooming
  • trainable
  • dog/cat friendly
  • good watchdog

Cons

  • may develop epilepsy

Should I adopt/buy a Beaglier?

If you are looking for an intelligent, affectionate, lively and loyal companion, this ball of fur will definitely do the trick (pun intended).
