As much as we all love our four-legged friends, we all have to admit one thing – dogs don’t smell like roses. If you’re looking for the perfect breed for you but you’re worried about this, in some ways, offensive characteristic, this list might help you out.

1. St. Bernard

This dog breed is one of the most problematic when it comes to hygiene, and with it, odor. St. Bernards drool profusely, they’re gassy like nobody’s business, and their sensitive skin can cause serious skin conditions that have a truly specific, horrid odor.

When they’re doing great, St. Bernards can smell almost amazing, but when their hygiene is not “on point,” most dog owners find it pretty difficult to be around them at all.

They’re known as one of the smelliest dogs around, so if you can handle your responsibilities that come with this breed, we advice you reconsider adopting a St. Bernard.

2. English Bulldog

Here’s another breed that is known all around the doggy-dog world as being incredibly smelly.

You could say that English Bulldogs are so majestically gassy they could make a grown man cry, and trust us, this is even an understatement.

English Bulldogs have genetically predisposed skin conditions that are to blame for the overall unpleasant smell, along with the gas issue, and they’re not recommended for people who are sensitive to odors.

However, they’re awfully cute, and that’s why they’re one of the most popular breeds around.

3. Bloodhound

bigstock-Waiting-3560185

Bloodhounds are one of the most “royal” looking dogs that ever existed. They somehow manage to look elegant even with their droopy skin and floppy ears, and they’re truly gifted when it comes to their sense of smell.

Yet, if you’re a human that’s also gifted in that area, we must advise you against adopting a Bloodhound.

Their huge, long ears have to be taken care of on a regular basis with intensive care, and they’re the main reason behind this dog’s terrible odor.

4. Boxer

This interesting breed has a lot of things going for it, but smelling good isn’t one of those things. However, you couldn’t say that they stink per say… Rather that they smell really unpleasant.

Boxers are gassy as gassy gets. If you’re considering to adopt, you need to be aware that you will have to make sure that your pup eats the most appropriate diet possible, and that its health is in top shape.

Depending on what they eat, you can manage that you Boxer smells less offensive, but you cannot take the odor away completely. Ever.

Either you don’t mind the smell, or you do.

5. Beagle

Snoopy might have been an awesome friend, but Charlie Brown deserves an award for what he has been putting up with for decades. Who would have thought that something so adorable, snuggly, and playfully wonderful could smell so bad?

It turns out that Beagles have to be cute, otherwise no one would ever make them a part of their family.

They suffer from horrid body odors from time to time, and some dog owners even admitted that their smell can change the smell of the whole yard, not to mention a house.

6. Shar Pei

Known all around the globe and among all dog lovers, Shar Peis are one of the most popular breeds that ever existed, but you would never guess that by smelling them.

The Shar Pei has a very distinctive skin, which is incredibly sensitive, and thus prone to many serious skin conditions.

If you don’t take care of your Shar Pei pup regularly, not only will it smell and look horrid, it could also get seriously sick and it will eventually have to be put down.

This is not a breed that can be taken care of easily, and it’s definitely not a breed for people who are known to get queasy for smelling something unpleasant.

7. Yorkie

bigstock-yorkshire-terrier-getting-his--26929685

Yorkies may fit into your bag, but that doesn’t mean you should put them there… unless you want your private possessions smelling of the nastiest things imaginable.

As with all breed on this list, Yorkies ask for a lot of care and time – if you can’t imagine yourself spending hours every week washing and brushing your Yorkie, don’t adopt one.

With their long coats, these pups need a lot of work just to avoid smelling like rotten eggs.

They’re also prone to tooth decay issues, so their lovable kisses may end up making you vomit if you don’t brush their teeth regularly. It’s not pleasant for you nor for them.

8. Cocker Spaniel

This dog is very well known for smelling bad as well as for being loved by many members of royal families and celebs.

We can’t help but wonder how do Cocker Spaniels manage to look majestic while smelling bad. They’re famous for having the biggest “dog odor” among all breeds, and there’s just no other way to put it.

They ask for a lot of care and a lot of time. If you don’t mind that basic doggy smell, go right ahead and adopt this wonderful pet. If, however, you find that type of smell unpleasant, we advise you get a gold fish instead.

9. Pug

Oh, Pugs. With their small bodies, huge heads, and a huge set of eyes, they look like they don’t belong on planet Earth at all. This alien-looking breed is, apart from their look, known for smelling pretty horrid.

Although some people argue that their cuteness makes up for their nasty odor, some can’t even stand being close to a Pug. They’re gassy like crazy, and their skin is prone to infections is they’re not cleaned on a regular basis.

Remember, you need to clean even the smallest skin flap on their body. But even with the highest levels of maintenance, you should still keep them away from the bedroom. Farts are not romantic.

10. Basset Hound

bigstock-Basset-Hound-1942477

Another breed that owes its odor to its huge, floppy ears and skin is the ever-so-popular Basset Hound. This adorable breed is one of the most perfect ones for families and kids, but make sure that your kids are not queasy when it comes to smells of all kinds.

Basset Hounds are incredibly prone to gas, and their skin can get infections – and that’s the tricky part.

This breed can’t handle regular baths because they dry out their skin, so you will just have to get used to their odor.

If you can’t manage that – don’t bother getting a Basset Hound.

11. Maltipoo

bigstock-Portrait-of-maltipoo-dog-playi-49531418

If anything, this list proves that even the cutest pups can smell like hell. Much like with its fellow long-eared four-legged friend, the Maltipoo’s ears are the main reason for its horrid, horrid smell.

This breed often suffers from ear mites, and it doesn’t matter how much time and effort you spend on their hygiene, they will always smell a bit fishy.

Their fur also needs a lot of care, due to its density which traps all kinds of things. If you don’t have a sense of smell at all, then go right ahead and make this lovable pup a part of your family.

12. Lhasa Apso

bigstock-Portrait-Of-Three-Purebred-Lha-37384939

“Unusual” and “cuddly” are the two terms mostly used for describing this wonderful dog breed, however, the third one is definitely “smelly.”

With their long, luxurious coats, Lhasa Apsos easily adopt a smell that is far from pleasant. When having a dog that asks for a lot of time and effort to be taken care of, it’s easy to understand how these pups can adopt that specific odor.

However, if you do your job as a dog owner, you shouldn’t have a huge problem with their odor apart from their own, special scent that won’t ever go away. And when you’re feeling lazy, just remember – leaving them smelly can cause a headache.

13. Irish Setter

bigstock-Woman-sitting-with-dogs-79595269

Lovable, playful, beautiful, majestic, elegant, perfect… All of these terms are used to describe one of the most popular breeds that ever existed and probably ever will – the Irish Setter.

And with all of their qualities it’s pretty easy to understand how everyone seems to forget one major thing regarding Irish Setter… they smell bad. And when we say bad – we mean really bad.

Of course, if you take care of your pooch properly and regularly, you shouldn’t have any huge issues when it comes to their smell. But if you’re prone to get a bit lazy, your pup can develop skin infections and stink-up every possible area it proudly struts into.

14. Newfoundland

bigstock-Newfoundland-dog-chewing-30704408

The Newfoundland is a truly glorious dog. Every part of them is majestic and a sight to be seen: they’re elegant even though they’re huge, they’re gorgeous even though their face almost can’t be seen, and they’re cuddly even though they could take down a bear.

Alas, as with all huge breeds, Newfoundlands drool like nobody’s business. They will easily drool on everything in sight, including you.

You need to be aware that you must clean up the dog’s drrol regularly, unless you want it sticking to its fur and skin, thus causing the most horrid smell imaginable. Don’t forget to brush their teeth as well, because that breath was not made for kissing.

15. Mastiff

bigstock-Dogue-de-Bordeaux--French-Mas-99346787

Mastiffs are another majestic breed that seems to have it all – good manners if trained properly, a cuddly personality if loved like it should be, and the most gorgeous fur if taken care of properly and regularly.

But of course, much like with its other fellow canine giants, Mastiffs drool, and they drool all the time.

You need to brush their teeth regularly if you want to avoid the most horrid breath imaginable, and you must wipe of the drool from their skin and fur.

ugh dogs, english bull dogs and similar breeds are terribly smelly. I cant stand this shit no more, I cant understand why people get them… oh wait! cause they’re cute right… who cares about the smell, about their breathing problems and expensive vet bills because they are so unnatural, beautiful eh?
