Although you have probably managed to find quality store-bought food your pooch enjoys eating every day, but it is always good to start mixing it up a little bit.

The best way to do that is to, every once in a while, introduce a home cooked meal for your dog as it will be an excellent change in his diet and a great way for you to bond with your four-legged buddy.

This time we are providing an excellent meat packed dog food recipe your canine friend will just love.

Total prep time is around 2hrs 15mins (prep 45mins, cook 1hr 30mins), but you will end up with up to 20 servings.

Let’s get busy!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1⁄2 lb ground chicken
  • 1⁄2 lb ground turkey
  • 1 lb baby carrots
  • 2 small baking potatoes
  • 3 cups brown rice
  • 3 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water

Preparation

  1. Mix all three kinds of meat in a large bowl and then cook the mixture in the oven (preferably larger 6 quart Dutch oven) for 30 minutes (medium heat).
  2. Add rice, chicken broth and water, and cook for another 30 minutes (medium heat).
  3. Add potatoes and carrots, and beaten eggs, and cook for another 30 minutes.
  4. After the mixture is done, pour it into storage containers and freeze. And there you have it. You are set for at least 2 to 3 weeks, depending on the size of your pooch.

If this recipe is fed exclusively it requires approximately one teaspoon of powdered calcium per pound of food.
