If you are leaving your dog for whatever reason, such as vacation or a business trip, getting emotional is absolutely expected, and don’t think the pooch can’t feel it too.

Overcoming separation anxiety is something you can work on to make the new circumstances easier for both you and your pet.

If at all possible, leave the dog with someone you and your canine know well. This will make the transition into separation easier as you won’t have to worry about your dog getting mistreated in any way while you are away.

If the pooch is not getting a dog sitter but will stay at someone else’s place, make sure you bring its toys, a blanket or anything that it is attached to to assist it in getting used to the separation. Familiar items and a familiar person will help the dog at least feel safe albeit being sad.

Keep in touch with the dog sitter to make sure everything goes smoothly until you return. This will give you the peace of mind you need and make the time go by faster until you are reunited with your furry friend.
