The type of diet that you choose for your dog will have a direct impact on the pooch’s quality of life and since we all want our pets to be as happy and as healthy as they can be, choosing the right type of food can sometimes be a daunting task.

Pet owners base their decisions regarding dog food on previous experience, advice from friends, breeders and often their dog’s veterinarian, but regardless of which type of food you go for it helps to know what your choices really are.

Today we re-examine wet food and what you and your pooch will be getting if you decide to feed your pet this type of diet on a regular basis.

Wet food is recommended for dogs who are reluctant to drink enough water as it keeps them hydrated, and older dogs who can’t chew dry food or have dental problems for whatever reason are certainly better off with wet food. Wet food contains all the necessary proteins, vitamins, and minerals to ensure your dog is healthy and well fed.

On the other hand, wet food is usually more expensive than dry food and it can lead to dental problems in dogs that are predisposed to such issues. Once it is open, a can of wet food needs to be consumed quickly as it loses its shelf life usually within a day or two. Last but not least, most dogs will make a mess out of wet food on a regular basis that the owner needs to clean up every time.

Making a well-informed decision that fits your lifestyle and the needs of your dog will ultimately lead to a happy dog/owner relationship regardless of your previous experience with dog food or that of your friends or family members.
